In 2001, Jim Foronda was writing commercials for Hasbro Toys when a budget miscalculation on a G.I.Joe campaign ended up with him cast as Cobra Commander, Duke, Heavy Duty, and a British reporter. After a year of being asked to play characters like Optimus Prime, Megatron, and Mr. Potato Head, he decided to pursue voice acting. Juggling time between ad writing and voice work, Jim began acting for Funimation, in shows like Dragon Ball Z and Fullmetal Alchemist. He has also performed in several video games, including Unreal Championship 2, SMITE, and as multiple characters across the Borderlands franchise (including the series’ mascot Claptrap in Borderlands 3). Though Jim made a career change to full-time voice acting in 2013, he still utilizes his advertising experience to express product and service benefits without sounding like a sales pitch. He’s vocally promoted everything from mobile phones to groceries, clothing to pain relief cream. In his spare time, Jim likes photography, video and board games, occasional trips to Japan, building LEGO stuff, and working on a novel that he will probably never, ever finish. He loves his wife, Karin, and their two cats Takkyubin and Momiji.
